About Us
Our Understanding is that beauty is not just an aesthetic journey, but a personal one as well. The name itself, “Lakshmi,” is deeply rooted in our personal experiences and in Indian culture, as Lakshmi is the Hindu goddess of beauty and abundance. While traveling in India, friends mentioned an herbalist by the name of Lakshmi, and simply pointed her location out on our map. Two weeks later we serendipitously found ourselves in that exact location, atop a cliff in Varkala overlooking the Arabian Sea, experiencing Lakshmi's Ayurvedic treatments.
Lakshmi embodied the quintessential independent woman with a true desire to use her skills for the benefit of others. Through the use of individualized products and techniques, she not only excelled at her craft, but also in the approach of expressing one's passions in life. From that moment on we felt as if we experienced something profound, and eventually that experience would change both of our lives and inspire us to create and open Lakshmi hair studio.
After returning to Delhi, we came across a small, bronze statue of “Lakshmi” and felt such a strong connection with her that we decided to bring her home with us. At that moment, we knew that her name truly defined our future studio. Since then, the statue of the goddess remains a central focus in our studio, overlooking our creativity from the second floor.
Our Philosophy is that beauty is not just an exterior appearance, but rather the meld of the aesthetic and emotional, resulting in confidence and ultimate bliss. Our studio truly offers a total body experience, as we create art through hair and makeup, to excite and inspire the senses.
This deep understanding of the spiritual aesthetic is not only expressed in our services, but also in our space. From the orange color on the walls evoking happiness, to the ambient music, to the freestanding stations that create an intimate space between client and stylist, our studio maintains a calm, freeing and creative environment. Our large-scale, glass windows establish a sense of energy in our space, as we are absorbing the liveliness from the city as well as sharing our creative energy with those glancing in. The view from the windows offers our stylists inspiration from the everyday life, just as we hope that our art inspires those passing by our studio.
That being said, we strongly believe that personal expression plays a major role in our art, which is why we encourage our stylists to express their unique style each and every day.
Our passion for creativity and expression is matched by our desire to be honest, humble and giving with our community. With Lakshmi being the goddess of generosity, she has inspired a sense of karma in our space. We are committed to donating our services to charities as well as hosting charitable events in our space. This generosity towards others is also reflected in the workshops that we offer our stylists, which consistently helps them improve their craft and inspire their creativity.
